e-SHOPPING
The internet - whether accessed through a computer, digital TV or mobile phone increasingly offers convenience, choice, competitive prices and access to a wealth of information. There is an increasing number of people making purchases online.
However a recent DTI study revealed there were still some concerns preventing people buying online.
Your confidence in this activity may be increased by the following safeguards:
- If your credit or debit card is used fraudulently in the EU, the card company must refund you.
- Credit card purchases offer protection if goods are not delivered or are faulty. A refund from the credit card company may be available.
- Use Websites you know or are recommended - look for the TrustUK logo.
- Keep copies of what you've ordered the supplier's confirmation message, phone number and postal address. Delivery should be within 30 days unless otherwise agreed.
- Quality: Your statutory consumer rights apply online.
- Cooling off: In many cases in the EU the law lets you change your mind and get a refund within 7 working days of the delivery.
- Always read the Terms and Conditions on the suppliers website and check what protections are offered before you contract to purchase the goods.
- You do not have many of the rights you have in the UK/EU for non EU country purchases.
- Check if VAT is payable. In non- EU countries you may need to pay customs, excise duties and VAT.
